Commissioner Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development

Steve Grove is the Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, the state’s primary workforce and economic development agency. Grove leads a 1400-person team that works to attract, grow, and retain businesses in the state – and to help the state’s workforce to develop the skills they need to succeed in the modern economy.

Before joining Governor Tim Walz’s cabinet, Grove spent 12 years as an executive at Google, most recently as the founding director of Google’s News Lab. Grove wrote for The Boston Globe and ABC News prior to joining Google. He has served as an advisor to the White House and State Department on counter-terrorism strategy. Grove also co-founded a nonprofit in 2014 called Silicon North Stars.
