Chancellor Minnesota State

Scott Olson is the chancellor of Minnesota State. Prior to his appointment as chancellor, Olson served as president of Winona State University from 2012–2023 and as provost and vice president for academic and student affairs at Minnesota State University Mankato from 2003–2012. He also served the Minnesota State system office as interim vice chancellor for academic and student affairs in 2010–2011. Throughout his 20-year career in the Minnesota State system, Olson has been a leader in major strategic initiatives, including development of the Minnesota State Centers of Excellence, Transfer Pathways, NextGen, and Minnesota State Equity 2030.

Previous engagements include Ball State University in Indiana (1998–2003) and Central Connecticut State University (1985–1998). Olson holds a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and doctorate from Northwestern University in Illinois.
