Marianne Wanamaker

Professor of Economics and Dean of the Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs University of Tennessee

Marianne Wanamaker is the dean of the University of Tennessee’s Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs and a professor of economics and public policy. Her expertise is in labor economics, education, and workforce development. Her recent scholarship looks at intergenerational mobility, labor market conditions, and health outcomes for different groups of Americans. In addition to her research record, Wanamaker has received several college and university teaching awards, including UT’s Alexander Prize in 2019.

Wanamaker is the former chief domestic economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers, where she also served as the senior labor economist. She is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a research fellow at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) and the Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
