The safety of Native women is essential to creating prosperous and healthy communities, yet across the country Native women suffer from disproportionately high rates of violence. This article provides insights about what is known about violence against Native women, relations to economic development, and recent legislative activity as policy makers seek more answers and, ideally, solutions to reduce violence. With increased awareness and access to more accurate data, communities can make better decisions and establish policies that not only support public safety, but also encourage economic development.
