Methodology: Credit conditions polls of businesses and financial professionals

The business and banking polls on credit conditions in the Ninth District were conducted with the help of 18 partner organizations in banking and business, replicating the methodology of identical polls conducted in late October and early November 2008, the results of which were published in the January 2009 fedgazette.

The poll of financial professionals partnered with 13 state banking and credit union associations, with representation from at least two organizations in each district state and one in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The organizations electronically distributed an eight-question poll to members for which they had contact information, along with directions for completing the poll online. The poll was sent to approximately 3,400 contacts, which included an unknown number of duplicate contacts from organizations that were members of more than one of the associations involved. The poll was conducted from April 22 to May 1, 2009. A total of 321 responses were received.

The fedgazette also polled businesses through the state chambers of commerce from Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. The organizations electronically forwarded a 10-question poll to members for which they had contact information, along with directions for completing the poll online. The poll was conducted from April 22 to May 1, 2009. A total of 6,125 questionnaires were distributed by state chambers to their memberships. A total of 686 responses were received.

The sample populations for these two polls were not randomly drawn. Therefore, results cannot claim to be representative. In addition, the people who responded may have a different bias compared to the people who did not respond.

Partner organizations for this special fedgazette focus on credit include the Michigan Bankers Association, Minnesota Bankers Association, Montana Bankers Association, North Dakota Bankers Association, South Dakota Bankers Association; Independent Community Bankers of Minnesota, Montana Independent Bankers Association, Independent Community Banks of North Dakota, Community Bankers of Wisconsin, Minnesota Credit Union Network, Montana Credit Union Network, Mid-America Credit Union Association; Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, Montana Chamber of Commerce, North Dakota Chamber of Commerce, and the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
