The National Council of La Raza recently awarded the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Minnesota (HCCM) a contract to provide a homebuyer counseling program to Latinos in the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area.
The Home Ownership and Financial Literacy Program, which HCCM kicked off in early May, was created to establish and enhance the economic stability of Latino families. It offers bilingual, one-on-one financial education and home-purchase counseling certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The free, confidential sessions cover the whole homebuying process, including credit issues, mortgage options and closing documents. The counseling relationship can last up to three years, depending on the client’s needs.
