The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) received a $200,000 grant to create a homebuyer-education initiative for Native Americans, according to an announcement from the grant's funding partners.
The grant will support the development of materials and instructor training for a national homebuyer-education course designed specifically for Native American families. Course materials will be drafted during the summer of 2002 and the content will be evaluated during pilot programs in Idaho and New Mexico in the fall. After the course is finalized, national Native American organizations such as the National American Indian Housing Council and First Nations Development Institute will deliver workshops to prospective homebuyers.
The grant's funders are: the Enterprise Foundation, Fannie Mae Foundation and Ford Foundation, each contributing $50,000; and Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, each contributing $25,000.
