Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Finder

Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), which are certified by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s CDFI Fund, are specialized entities that provide financial products and services in markets not fully served by traditional financial institutions. They may be banks, credit unions, or non-depository loan funds or venture funds. Generally, CDFIs strive to provide the following products and services:

  • Mortgage financing for low-income and first-time home buyers and not-for-profit developers;
  • Flexible underwriting and risk capital for needed community facilities; and
  • Technical assistance, commercial loans, and investments to small start-up or expanding businesses in low-income areas.

CDFIs fund their activities through earnings and through supports from the CDFI Fund, private foundations, corporations, and religious organizations.
