Financial Services

In both Minneapolis and Helena, the Minneapolis Fed provides financial services to depository institutions, including banks, credit unions, and savings and loans, much like the services that banks provide for their customers. These services include collecting checks, electronically transferring funds, and distributing and receiving cash and coin. That’s why all of the Federal Reserve district banks are often called “the bankers’ bank.”

Our Treasury Services department is unique within the Federal Reserve System by providing support for customers who purchase and redeem marketable U.S. Treasury securities and savings bonds in paperless electronic form through TreasuryDirect.
